Dear WFWIA supporters,
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the Hope through Education lunch at Leonda by the Yarra last Friday. The feedback from the fundraiser has been incredibly positive with guests reporting they enjoyed learning more about WFWIA, had fun, appreciated the gifts, quality of the auction items, sensational entertainment, delicious food and enjoyed the great vibe in the room. It was heartwarming to see our long-term supporters embrace all those who were new to the WFWIA circle. It was a spectacular event raising $123,017, having 16 children sponsored which is a wonderful outcome and will have a lasting impact.
28 students are still in urgent need of sponsorship so they can attend school next year. If you or anyone you know would be interested in supporting these children, please do not hesitate to contact me or click here: https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/contact-us/
The $200 ‘Call to Action’ during the lunch received an overwhelming response with $15,550 raised in a few short minutes. Those who put their hands up and are yet to pay can donate online. Go to https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/ and scroll down to One off payment. This money will support information technology, life skills and wellbeing programs for post-secondary students who are waiting for a tertiary placement. During the gap between their secondary and tertiary education students are given essential bridging training. The $15,550 raised will go directly to training students at the WkW Centre.
We would like to thank Sr Leonida and Abel Oteko for their beautiful video messages. They captured our hearts and were a powerful reminder as to why we were all there. We’re thrilled for the winning bidders of the South African safari and Kenyan experience including the Maasai Mara. They will be incredible lifetime memories and we’re very appreciative to Richard Ruskin at African Travel Specialists for his generosity in donating these two amazing major auction items. Thank you to the table captains for extending the invitation. Please forward this letter to your guests if they didn’t provide their email on the booking form to thank them for their wonderful support. Hopefully each guest who attended will bring a friend next year and we will continue to extend the WFWIA circle. There were many people who worked tirelessly and gave generously in volunteering their time to make it such a special event. We appreciated the incredible talent and generosity of Heidi Arena (MC) Adam Rozenbachs & Dr Monique Ryan for the entertaining panel discussion, Stuey Faymous (DJ extraordinaire) Phil de Fégely (Melbourne’s best auctioneer) Joys Soul (singer with a voice from heaven) and Oliver Tormey (AV) to making the event run smoothly. Other indispensable volunteers included Miakoda Murray and Auroni Chaudhuri, together with the fantastic support we received from the Victory Funding team.
Congratulations to the exceptional members of the Functions committee (Cassi Tormey, Therese Ryan, and Joy Haig) who were led by the extraordinary Anny Murray. It was their dedication and hard work that made the event possible. We look forward to seeing you all again for our 2025 function. Thank you for standing together as we support the women and children of Kibera.
Asante Sana.
