Our Annual WFWIA Golf Day was played on Monday 13th November 2017 at RACV Torquay Golf Club raising over $9,000 for the welfare of our students and their families from Kibera slum in Nairobi. We also may have 2 students sponsored for school in 2018. They will be forever grateful.

We sincerely thank all of the golfers who played in a packed field for their huge support and the generosity of our sponsors. It makes the effort of organising all the more worthwhile.

Our sponsors are always so vital to run this event and especially our two major sponsors – own website designer Brown Ink Design, a specialist in Brand Identity, Web Design and Marketing, and Mann Legal who offer cost-effective professional legal services with offices in Geelong and Torquay.

Paula Hayden, one of the women heavily involved in WFWIA for over 12 years, spoke about one of her many trips to Nairobi with Marguerite Ryan where they were caught up in the violence of the 2008 Kenyan elections with many people from Kibera killed. Recently similar scenes occurred over the past 3 months in Nairobi and parts of Kenya, with another disputed election. Many lives were needlessly lost again in Kibera.

On the day we had wonderful helpers so thank you to Lyn, Marilyn, Gaye and Glenn. Mandy Buckley, our golf organiser and MC, worked tirelessly for months on this day and yet again she made it a great day for everyone who participated.

Once again a big thank you to everyone for a wonderful day in lovely sunshine on a great golf course.
